Tanzania - Tanzania Cycle Safari (13 days)

This exciting trip combines the best that safari Tanzania has to offer interspersed with cycling through diverse and spectacular landscape.
Starting from Arusha in the north of the country we head out across cultivated banana and coffee plantations before meeting the Rift Valley and the grasslands used by the Masai for grazing cattle. We are able to cycle close to the southern shores of Lake Manyara and we will almost certainly spot some game here - zebra, giraffe and wildebeest.

Off our bikes and into four-wheel drive vehicles, we explore the natural wildlife sanctuary of the Ngoronogoro Crater and the wide open plains of the Serengeti; the wildlife here is truely captivating. The final days of cycling are long but hugely rewarding, as we cycle to Lake Natron and the awe-inspiring active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai, passing only Masai with their cattle and the wildlife they live alongside.

  • Day 1: Start Arusha.
  • Day 2: Our first day cycling, head west across the Monduli mountain range, dropping down to Mezerani.
  • Day 3: Short road transfer before cycling towards the Rift Valley across Masai plains to the town of Mto Wa Mbu.
  • Day 4: Early start; cycle to southern shores of Lake Manyara with wildlife spotting opportunities.
  • Day 5: Circular ride out into the Rift Valley - a real chance for game viewing.
  • Day 6: An early start as our bikes are packed away and we head into Ngoronogoro Crater for a game drive; continue to Serengeti.
  • Day 7: Full day in the Serengeti, exploring the area around the Seronera River and enjoying the wildlife.
  • Day 8: Today we travel north through the Serengeti, leaving the park late afternoon after a full day of wildlife viewing.
  • Day 9: Cycle down the eastern edge of the park and will have plenty of wildlife-spotting opportunities.
  • Day 10: Long ride out towards the Rift Valley and enjoy a spectacular cycle down to Lake Natron and Ol Doinyo Lengai.
  • Day 11: A free day to relax, take a walk to the lake or nearby waterfall, or rest for an optional ascent of Lengai, a strenuous walk starting at midnight.
  • Day 12: Long transfer back to Arusha through the great scenery of the Crater Highlands
  • Day 13: End Arusha.
